Removing the head
Here I'll show the removal of the cylinder head.
The bolt in the circle is the tensioner. Remove the small bolt to release the tension on the plunger, then undo the larger bolt it sits in, to release the chain tension.
You can see the chain is now slack, and the 10 headbolts are visible between the camshafts and the centre casting. You slacken the headbolts in a sequence.
The head finally removed. The coolant in the cylinders is from where the system never quite drains. As can be seen from the picture, all 4 bores and pistons look pretty clean for an engine with over 170,000 miles on the clockthe two camshafts.
